Glen Dirnberger of Cape Girardeau was awarded the Delmar A. Cobble Outstanding Student Nurse of the Year Thursday night at graduation ceremonies for Southeast Hospital's School of Nursing.

Dirnberger began his health care career as a volunteer in Southeast's emergency services department, and later became an employee there. He later earned his licensed practical nurse degree through Cape Girardeau Vocational-Technical School and was hired at Southeast as an LPN in the medical progressive unit. He continued to work toward his associate of applied science in nursing degree while working at the hospital.

The award is named for the late Delmar A. Cobble, a longtime educator and member of the hospital's Board of Trustees. Cobble also served as chairman of the hospital's Hazel Harrison Strickler scholarship program, which has benefited more than 250 students.

Also recognized Thursday night were: Sondra Deimund of Cape Girardeau and Laura Miget of Perryville, Medical-Surgical Nursing Award; Lisa Ramsey of Oran, Patient Care Management Award; Phyllis Stanley of New Madrid, Maternal Nursing Award; Kathleen Ruopp of Cape Girardeau, Pediatric Nursing award; Lori Koch of Festus, Mental Health Nursing Award; Yvonne Keener of Mill Springs, and Bettye Matthews of Poplar Bluff, Professional Growth Award. Miget also received the Academic Achievement Award for having attained the highest grade point average.

Twenty-nine students received degrees Thursday.
