The Cape Girardeau Noon Lions Club recently received the Haywood Snipes Award for its donation to the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation. The award celebrates the legacy of Lion Haywood Snipes of Poplar Bluff, Mo., who helped the Missouri Lions Sight Committee raise more than $250,000 to build the foundation.

Donations to MLERF by Lions Clubs fund projects such as the amblyopia prevention program, free glaucoma detection screening, eye care assistance for indigent Missourians without insurance or a means of obtaining eye care, and an eyeglass recycling program for transport overseas by humanitarian groups.
