Nominations open for volunteer awards

The Area Wide United Way is taking nominations for the 15th annual Volunteer Recognition Awards.

"We encourage local agencies to recognize outstanding volunteers," said Kathy Denton, assistant director of the Area Wide United Way in Cape Girardeau.

The recognition program was developed to spotlight the efforts of individuals who strive to make their communities better places to live.

Nominations must be submitted no later than March 8. The awards will be presented April 24. They may be submitted in four categories:

Youth and young adult (25 years of age and younger)

Adult (ages 26 through 59)

Senior adult (age 60 and older)

Groups and organizations consisting of two or more individuals

Nomination forms may be requested by calling the Area Wide United Way office at 334-9634. Forms are also available at the Area Wide United Way office at 1858 Broadway.
