SIKESTON, Mo. -- The new Three Rivers Community College Sikeston campus has taken another small step toward becoming a reality.
A public hearing for the annexation of property located on the southeast corner of the U.S. 60/61 intersection south of Sikeston was held during the regular Sikeston City Council meeting Monday.
The annexation was requested by Three Rivers Community College, which received the nearly 40 acres of land as a donation from Scott and Karen Matthews and Michael and Elizabeth Brunt.
The only comment during the hearing was from Wayne McSpadden, operations manager for the Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities.
"We do have utilities that are adjacent to the area," McSpadden confirmed. He said BMU would be reasonably able to extend those services to the area if it is annexed.
Chuck Leible, city counselor, said if no objections from 5 percent of Sikeston's residents or at least two residents of the land to be annexed are received by the city within 14 days, the council may proceed with the annexation.
