The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded just after 1 p.m. Tuesday to a house fire at 1022 Perry Ave., near the corner of Perry Avenue and New Madrid Street.

Fire chief Rick Ennis said the house was occupied, but everyone escaped the house without injury before the arrival of firefighters. The fire was controlled in about 10 minutes, he said.

Part of the road was closed while firefighters controlled the fire, but it was later reopened.

Ennis said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Damage was estimated at $45,000.
