The driver of a pickup truck escaped injury Monday morning after his truck overturned on Interstate 55 near mile marker 102.
According to Darin Hickey, spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Police Department, the driver of a Ford F-250 pickup truck -- a Jackson resident whose name has not been released -- was southbound on I-55 at about 8 a.m. when the truck went off the right side of the road. The driver steered the truck back to the left, and it continued in that direction and crossed over cables and into the median. The truck then flipped onto its roof and slid across the northbound lanes of the interstate. On the east side of the interstate, the truck flipped right side up after it came into contact with grass, Hickey said.
Hickey said crews from the police department and the Cape Girardeau Fire Department arrived at the scene to remove the driver from the truck. The driver refused medical treatment, and his truck was towed from the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation, Hickey said.
