Bollinger County Sheriff Darin Shell said there was some "confusion" in Sunday's Southeast Missourian story about his office issuing conceal carry permits. It was reported that his office could not issue permits because of budget constraints.
Shell explained that the sheriff's office needs some additional equipment to issue the permits, and that he does not have the funds in his budget this fiscal year to buy it. However, his office has made arrangements to print and laminate the permits temporarily until the end of the year.
"We still issue them," Shell said. "There is no change in service for that."
In January, when the FY 2014 budget goes into effect, he will be able to get the needed equipment and issue permits the way the state requires.
