N.J. pays off racial profiling claims

TRENTON, N.J. -- The state of New Jersey has agreed to pay $250,000 to settle claims by three motorists who said they were pulled over and searched by state troopers because of their race.

The state did not admit wrongdoing as part of the settlement announced Tuesday.

Attorney General David Samson said that "a resolution of these cases, which were filed under the previous administration, will be a major step" in achieving the state's goal of reforming its police practices.
