Nixon, Spence express confidence after voting

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Democratic Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon says he's feels good about his chances of winning re-election. His Republican challenger, Dave Spence, also is making plans to become governor.

Spence voted early Tuesday with his wife and children at a St. Louis County library. Nixon was greeted by two dozen cheering supporters when he voted a couple hours later with his wife in Jefferson City.

Nixon cited an improved unemployment rate and a financially sound government while expressing confidence in his re-election. St. Louis businessman Spence said he also is planning on victory, noting he traveled about 75,000 miles and attended hundreds of events while campaigning.

Both candidates planned some quiet contemplation before their election night watch parties. Spence was attending a church service. Nixon was visiting his mother's grave.
