Nine teens were arrested early Tuesday morning for trespassing after allegedly using the swimming pool at the Cape Girardeau Country Club without permission, police said.
Cape Girardeau police responded to the country club around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday after a neighbor complained about the noise, said Cpl. Adam Glueck, spokesman for the police
department.
When police arrived, they found the teenagers in the pool area, and one was allegedly caught with a small amount of marijuana and some used pipes in his backpack, Glueck said.
Those arrested and cited for trespassing before being released: Megan A. Davison, 18, of Jackson; Jennifer A. Tenholder, 19, 539 Cadmium Lane; Joshua S. Hubbard, 19, 2452 Camelback Road; Glynn C. Stewart, 17, 1150 Cypress Court; Thomas H. McGowan, 19, 1806 Huntingdon Drive; Jeremy W. Jernigan, 19, 2043 Beth Drive; Stanton C. Bradley, 19, 1614 Price Drive; Frances P. Kinder, 18, 2112 Woodhaven Road; and Andrew P. Shupert, 18, 3829 Valley View Lane.
Shupert also received a summons for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Some of the teens were employees at the country club, said general manager Brad Twidwell.
Twidwell said incidents like this do not occur often at the country club, usually around once a summer.
"Once in a blue moon we'll notice something out at the pool that's not normal, like some trash around that tells us we've had a visitor," Twidwell said.
Security lights adorn the area near the pool, and police are occasionally asked to patrol the grounds.
Staff will also spot-check certain areas of the grounds at night, and the gates are always locked, Twidwell
said.
