Nine more countries want swine flu vaccine
LONDON -- Drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline says that nine additional countries have ordered 96 million doses of swine flu vaccine since last month. That is in addition to the 195 million vaccine doses and products previously ordered by countries including Britain and the U.S., for a total of 291 million doses. In a statement, Glaxo said the first supplies of the vaccine would be available beginning in September, though that depends on how well the virus used to make the vaccine is growing. Last month, the World Health Organization said the viruses being used for the vaccines were not producing enough of a key ingredient. Britain has repeatedly claimed it will start vaccinating its population later this month.
