SIKESTON -- Sikeston's newest night spot, The Copper Still 91, opened this week in the renovated building that formerly housed The Copper Still, which closed two years ago.

Although the new club will use the same building and name as the old Copper Still, the similarities end there, said owner Chuck Sanders.

Sanders said he and co-owner, Robert Lay, have completely remodeled the facility, which now includes a restaurant.

"The old place didn't have a dining room and we've completely remodeled everything in the dining area," Sanders said.

He said the restaurant, open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday, serves deli sandwiches, steaks, seafood and "really great cajun chicken." A breakfast buffet also will be served on weekends from midnight until 3 a.m.

The restaurant and connected bar include more than 5,000 square feet. The bar features a raised, platform dance area, a compact-disc sound system and a large-screen television.

"We're running cd's interspersed with music videos on the big screen TV," Sanders said. "We're playing a lot of 1970s rock, some contemporary country and some current dance music later in the evening."

The bar hours are 4 p.m. until 1:30 a.m., Monday through Saturday. The bar also will feature live bands on some weekends.

"We opened up Monday and the response has been just great," Sanders said. "Word of mouth has really caught on and it seems to be working out well."

Sanders said one of the most notable features of the dining room is the original early 1900s-era tile floor.

"We hired a firm to come in and strip and refinish the floor," he said. "It really turned out nice."

Sanders said he plans a grand opening "in a couple weeks." He said the event will feature drink specials and live entertainment.

"We've really done a lot of work to make this place, hopefully, a popular nightclub in the Sikeston area," Sanders said. "So far, things have been going really well, but I think the grand opening will really kick things off for us."

He said the event will be announced later and advertised throughout the area.
