Newspaper seeking fond memories and fair photos

Is it the food? The competition? A special date with a special someone? Maybe it's the midway and the thrilling carnival rides.

What do you remember about the SEMO District Fair?

The SEMO District Fair board and the Southeast Missourian are looking for old fair photos from the 1800s to the 1950s.

The Missourian also wants your memories to include, along with the photos, in the 150th SEMO District Fair special section to be inserted in the Sept. 7 Southeast Missourian.

Place original photos in an envelope with name, return address and phone number. The photos will be scanned and returned in two weeks. Make a note if photos should be mailed back or picked up. The Southeast Missourian must have a signed consent form on file.

Photos may be dropped off at the Southeast Missourian, 301 Broadway, or mailed to Southeast Missourian, Attention: Fair Photos, Box 699, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0699.

Write in 50 words or less your fondest memories of going to the fair and submit them by mail to the Southeast Missourian, Attention: Fair Memories, 301 Broadway, Box 699, Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63702-0699; by fax at 339-08115; by e-mail to crobert @semissourian. com.

The deadline for submitting photos and memories is Aug. 20.
