LOUISIANA, Mo. -- The father of the 4-year-old girl abducted last week from her eastern Missouri home and found 26 hours later, said he thinks the kidnapper cased the neighborhood before the kidnapping.

David Maier told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Saturday he thinks the kidnapper even knew a blind spot in the front yard that can't be seen from the kitchen window.

Paul Smith, the man who authorities said abducted Alisa July 5, fatally shot himself Wednesday when confronted by police.

David Maier, who has not spoken publicly about ordeal, told the Post-Dispatch that Alisa has been well and happy since her return to the family's home in Louisiana, Mo., north of St. Louis.

Alisa was found wandering around a car wash in Fenton, Mo., late Tuesday when police found her.
