May is nationally designated as Mental Health Month. The years marks the 50th anniversary of the national observance of this event.

The Community Counseling Center will host a seminar entitled "Living with Severe Mental Illness: What Families and Friends Must Know," on 12:30-4 p.m. Saturday Centenary United Methodist Church Family Life Center.

The seminar is open to the public and free of charge. Dr. Carol North, Dr. Laura Sherman, and Dr. Robert McCool, all psychiatrists, will conduct the seminar.

On Wednesday, the center will host a Legislative Gathering of senators, representatives, and other elected officials serving the five-county area served by the center. It will be held 3:30-5:30 p.m. Rep. Patrick Naeger will deliver a presentation on mental health legislation and trends in the state of Missouri.
