Jason P. Hotop
Marine Lance Cpl. Jason P. Hotop, son of Steven P. and Cheryl A. Hotop of Route 1, Perryville, recently received a Meritorious Mast.
Hotop was cited for outstanding service while assigned with 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendaleton, Calif.
A Meritorious Mast is an official recognition from a Marine's commanding officer for superior individual performance. It is issued in the form of a bulletin published throughout the command, and a copy is entered in the Marine's permanent service records.
The 1992 graduate of Perryville High School joined the Marine Corps in January 1993.
Christy L. Brown
Navy Seaman Recruit Christy L. Brown, daughter of Patty A. McCormick of 311 N. Maryland St., Jackson, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Brown completed a variety of training which included classroom study, practical hands on instruction, and an emphasis on physical fitness. In particular, Brown learned naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety and survival, and a variety of safety skills required for working around ships.
Brown joins 55,000 men and women who will enter the Navy this year from all over the country.
Brown is a 1994 graduate of Jackson High School.
