Footings and foundation for a new sign paint shop have been constructed at the northwest corner of Hopper Road near the Interstate 55 overpass, west of Cape Girardeau.
The sign paint shop, for the Mid America Hotels Inc. subsidiary, Auburn Outdoor Advertising, will be used for producing the company's billboards and small signs, according to company spokesman John Drury.
Construction on the 30 x 40-foot building has been halted on the project, waiting for a formal hearing June 17 by Cape Girardeau County.
Drury said a building permit has already been issued.
"The building is scheduled to be completed 30 days after construction starts atain," he said.
The sign company now does sign painting on a makeshift basis at different buildings it owns in the area. Mid America owns the 4.87 acre plt north of Hopper Road adjacent to the intersection.
