Franklin Elementary School and the Career and Technology Center in Cape Girardeau will both be welcoming new administrators this fall, the school district's central office announced Wednesday.

April Garner will leave her position as principal at Scott City Elementary to take on the new role at Franklin, she said Wednesday.

"I'm excited to return to Cape public schools," Garner said, adding she attended Franklin as an elementary-school student herself.

"It's kind of like going home, even though it's a different building now," Garner said.

Garner anticipates an exciting challenge working at the school with a "wonderful staff for the success of our young Tigers," she said.

"I think a lot of positive things are going on in Cape schools, and I'm excited to be part of it," Garner said.

Garner graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau three times, earning her bachelor's, master's and specialist degrees, she said.

"I'm excited about what's ahead," Garner said.

Brock Crowley will be the new assistant director of post-secondary education at the Career and Technology Center, stepping into the role to be vacated by incoming CTC director Libby Guilliams.

CTC director Rich Payne will retire effective June 30, as previously reported by the Southeast Missourian.

Crowley is director of the Pemiscot County Career & Technology Center in Hayti, Missouri, and has been for the past two of his 13 years in education, he wrote in an email Wednesday.

He earned his bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University, and his master's and specialist from William Woods University, according to a district news release.

He has taught carpentry and cabinetmaking, Crowley added.

"My family and I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to become part of a wonderful community and school district," Crowley wrote, adding the Cape CTC is one of the premier career-and-technology centers in the state, and he's honored to join the school district.

Both positions are effective July 1, according to a district news release.

"We are pleased to welcome Ms. Garner and Mr. Crowley to Cape Girardeau Public Schools," superintendent Neil Glass said in the release.
