The new Cape Girardeau Bell Telephone directory contains the Cape Girardeau public school listings this year.

Telephone users had to use other means to obtain numbers for Alma Schrader, Schultz, and Franklin elementary schools as the public school listings were omitted from last year's directory.

Delivery of this year's directories started Thursday and will continue this month.

The new phone book's cover has a photograph of Cape Girardeau's Freedom Corner at Capaha Park at Broadway and West End Boulevard.

The corner features a replica of the Statue of Liberty donated by the Boy Scouts in 1950. The color cover photograph was taken by Michael Wells of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.

The photo is the third local photo on the directory's cover over the past four years. Last year's featured a picture of the Cape Rock scenic overlook of the Mississippi River, taken from the files of the Cape Girardeau Convention & Business Bureau. In 1998, the cover photo was taken by Cape Girardeau photographer Bill Hughey, featuring a riverboat making its way down the Mississippi, being watched by two young fishermen.

Area residents are encouraged to take part in the 10th annual "Project ReDirectory" recycling campaign that begins Monday and continues through Jan. 11.

Old telephone books may be dropped off in Cape Girardeau at Schnucks, Bank of America centers, the Southeast Missouri State University Recreation Center, and the City of Cape Girardeau Recycling Center. In Jackson, drop-off sites include Food Giant, Bank of America centers, and the Jackson vehicle maintenance facility at 416 Florence.
