A new dining option is opening in West Park Mall. Tandoor Indian Grill, owned by Dr. Vishnu Subramani, will open April 2.

Tandoor Indian Grill will serve authentic Indian and south Indian dishes.

“The chefs are from south India,” Subramani said.

He plans on offering several curry dishes featuring chicken, goat or lamb. Idlis, dosai, curried vegetables and soups such as sambar and rasam will be available.

“The menu is huge,” Subramani said.

“We’re going to also add items from more regional places in the country,” he said, “because every region of India has its own flavor and taste, like Kerala style, Andhra style, Punjabi style.”

Tandoor also will have a fusion menu featuring burgers with Indian spices, masala fries and tandoori chicken salads.

The unique aspect of the restaurant will be the seating.

“We’re using Japanese flooring and seating — sitting on the ground,” Subramani said. “It’s going to be by reservation only for that particular area. The experience will be a little different, and a special menu for that.”

The rest of the restaurant will offer regular seating and an a la carte menu.

The restaurant also includes a stage, where Subramani plans to feature Bollywood-style dancing or other kinds of Indian performance art occasionally.

Tandoor Indian Grill will be in the wing that holds Furniture Factory Liquidators and Orange Monkey, in the former home of Don Carlos Mexican Restaurant. Don Carlos recently moved to the main entrance of the mall.

Subramani said his passion for the art of cooking motivated him to open his first restaurant.

“This opportunity opened up, and I thought I would just jump on it before it went away,” he said.
