Leopold High School has a new after-school club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), thanks to the efforts of eighth-grader Alex Hampton. The club's main focus is to help students play sports with a Christian-like attitude.

Hampton first learned about FCA when he attended a camp at Notre Dame. That gave him the idea to introduce the club to his own school with the help of Tryston Duby from Notre Dame. Hampton went to the Leopold School District Board of Education in September to get approval for the new club.

The board approved the request and he was able to put his plan in action. He posted fliers in the halls, encouraging people to join, and has spent a lot of time organizing and planning the meetings.

"The reason I started FCA was because our school has a lot of student athletes who are religious," Hampton said. "So, I wanted to bring our student athletes together and help them grow closer to God."

The next FCA meeting is today, Jan. 17, in the school gym.
