Two new and two returning members of the Cape Girardeau City Council were sworn in Thursday.
Councilmen Frank Stoffregen, Ward 1, and Jay Purcell, Ward 3, won their posts in Tuesday's election.
Stoffregen defeated incumbent James "J.J." Williamson Jr., and Purcell defeated Gerald Stevens for a two-year unexpired term.
Also sworn into office in Thursday's special meeting were Mayor Al Spradling III and Ward 6 Councilman Richard "Butch" Eggimann, both of whom were unopposed in their bids for re-election.
Ward 2 Councilman Tom Neumeyer, who was also re-elected without opposition, was not present at Thursday's office and will be sworn in at a later date.
The City Council presented a plaque of recognition to Williamson for his service to the city.
The council also certified the results of Tuesday's election.
