Students at Southeast Missouri State University would pay $135 to $190 more to live on campus next school year under a plan that will be submitted to the Board of Regents Friday.
Room-and-board charges would range from $3,920 to $4,760 annually, depending on the residence hall.
Room charges would go up 3.7 to 6.8 percent while board charges would climb 3.1 to 3.6 percent.
Dr. SueAnn Strom, vice president of student affairs, said two main reasons for the recommended increases are the increased cost of cable television and a $10 increase per residence-hall student for campus programming.
The cable provider, TCI, plans to increase its charges for cable service, Strom said.
The cost will be highest in Greek Housing, where cable will be installed this summer.
Towers South and East residence halls don't have cable. It won't be run to those residence halls for another year, Strom said.
Increased food-service costs also are a factor in the recommended hike in board charges, she said.
Even with the increases in room-and-board charges, Southeast would be competitive with other colleges in Missouri, Strom said.
About 1,900 Southeast students live in campus housing.
