Native American writer Joseph Marshall III will give public readings and speak to Southeast classes this week.
Marshall, who lives in Wyoming, is a Sicangu Lakota who was born on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. His newest book, "The Lakota Way: Stories and Lessons for Living," was published by Viking Press this month.
He also has written "The Dance House," a collection of stories and essays from Rosebud Reservation, and the novels "Hunter-warrior of The Plains," "On Behalf of The World and the First Peoples" and "Winter of the Holy Iron." He served as the technical adviser for the made-for-TV movie "Lakota Moon" and wrote the screenplay for the movie "Thundercave."
Today Marshall will tell stories from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Public Library.
Wednesday he will give at reading at Barnes & Noble at 7 p.m. On Thursday he will read from his works at 7 p.m. at Dempster Auditorium on the Southeast campus.
