WICKLIFFE, Ky. The Wickliffe Mounds Research Center will hold a Native American Games Weekend Saturday and Sunday.
The games weekend is a new event, said Kit Wesler, center director.
"This is part of our effort to bring Native Americans and their living culture into our programming," Wesler said. "We hope it will become an annual event."
Native Americans representing the Shawnee and Crow tribes are expected, Wesler said.
Among the games are "michiche ustwatouwuk," a guessing game between individuals or teams, and "gusegonak," played with colored plum pits.
Other games include "chunkey," played with a hoop or round stone, and "pokean," a version of badminton. Wesler said stones from the "chunkey" game are found at sites like Wickliffe.
The Wickliffe museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through November, except Thanksgiving Day.
