National Weather Service says ice already falling north of Cape Girardeau

The National Weather Service's latest short-term forecast, issued online at 8 p.m., says ice is starting to accumulate in the northern reaches of Southern Illinois near Sesser.

By 9 p.m., the weather service forecasts ice to be falling in Marble Hill, Mo.

The text of the latest short-term forecast:

ICING CONTINUES IN SESSER...WHERE 1/10 OF INCH OF ICING ON TREES

AND POWER LINES HAS ALREADY ACCUMULATED. THE 32 DEGREE LINE WILL

SAG SLOWLY SOUTH AND EAST AND REACH A BENTON ILLINOIS TO MARBLE HILL

MISSOURI LINE BY 900 PM. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL OF 1/4 INCH OR SO WILL

PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT ICING FROM PINCKNEYVILLE TO SESSER AND COULD

BEGIN TO PRODUCE POWER OUTAGES. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
