Catalog models are photographed in all America's premier cities -- Miami, Memphis, Dallas, Cape Girardeau.
Yes, Children's Apparel Service will shoot its fall 1995 catalog in Cape Girardeau in May, and a longstanding relationship with Children's Bazaar is bringing the company's photographer here.
Store owner Judy Wilferth said Children's Apparel Service makes catalogs for all its member's clothing shops, so the book is distributed nationwide. The service has worked with Children's Bazaar for a long time, looking over their television and print advertising. They heard the store name again three years ago when Children's Bazaar was ranked in the top 16 children's stores in the nation.
Other winners were in California and New York.
"We're really thrilled to have them do the catalog in Cape Girardeau," Wilferth said. "It's a long way from their headquarters in Dallas."
Wilferth is currently accepting applications from parents with children who can model for the catalog. Parents must submit their child's photo. If they don't have one that meets the guideline, a photographer will be in the store three times before the April 10 deadline. Children's Apparel Service is looking for up to 40 children ages 12 and younger.
"The pictures will be sent to Dallas and chosen by the agency," Wilferth said. "The better ones will be given to a modeling agency there. We're looking for cute kids, and there are plenty in Cape Girardeau."
She added that, while models don't receive compensation for the catalog, the photo shoot gives them an opportunity to develop poise and confidence.
Potential sites are Cape Rock Park, the courthouse, Southeast Missouri State University and area farms.
Wilferth has owned Children's Bazaar for 22 years. The store carries dresses and casual wear for teens and pre-teens.
