The local chapter of the NAACP will sponsor a "Community Awareness Program" at 8 p.m. today at City Hall, 401 Independence. The program will be aired on Channel 13, the city's cable TV access station, and will include a "call-in" format to field questions from the viewing audience...

The local chapter of the NAACP will sponsor a "Community Awareness Program" at 8 p.m. today at City Hall, 401 Independence.

The program will be aired on Channel 13, the city's cable TV access station, and will include a "call-in" format to field questions from the viewing audience.

Ina Boone, Region 4 director for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, will be the featured speaker, and Carol Keeler of KZIM radio will host the event.

Topics for the program include housing, work-force integration and education.

Debra Willis, community action chair of the NAACP in Cape Girardeau, said the program will "address the goals and accomplishments and areas of concern for the local chapter.

"We want to introduce the NAACP to this area," she said. "There are a lot of misconceptions out there that we want to clear up."

Willis encouraged the public to attend.
