Lyn Muzzy has agreed to a six month contract with the City of Cape Girardeau as a convention and tourism consultant.
"Muzzy will be working under contract for us," said City Manager J. Ronald Fischer. "He will remain as director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) during our search for a new director. Then he will continue to attend trade shows."
Fischer added that Muzzy would be doing "exactly the same job he's doing now, and at the same salary. At end of six months Muzzy's contract will be up for negotiations."
The CVB, which promotes tourism and conventions in the Cape Girardeau area, will start operating as a new division of the city July 1 and will receive its directions from the Cape Girardeau City Council during the fiscal year that starts July 1.
The CVB budget for fiscal 1993-94 will be $310,000, said Fischer.
Since 1985 the CVB has been operating under the Chamber of Commerce, which contracted with the city for the CVB operation.
"The CVB will also operate as it has always operated," said Fischer, "The emphasis will still be on conventions and tourism. Cathy Crites and Mary Stucker will continue as CVB staff members.
Meanwhile, the city will start accepting resumes for a new division head position, noted Fischer. "The new person will be responsible for overall division operations and management and promoting Cape Girardeau," he said.
