Work on widening Mt. Auburn Road will shift from the west side of the road -- southbound lanes from Independence Street north to Hopper Road -- to the east side of Mt. Auburn -- northbound lanes -- on Monday, according to a news release from the Cape Girardeau city government.

Some work will still be taking place on the west side of Mt. Auburn Road near the Collins Road and Old Hopper Road intersections.

One lane will be closed throughout the widening process. Work includes street patching, road widening and installation of new curbs, gutters and sidewalks.

Drivers are urged to use caution while traveling in the area.
