The first Mouse Races and Dance for Multiple Sclerosis will be held today at the Dockside the Upper Deck in Cape Girardeau. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the races starting at 7:30 p.m. The mice are being provided by Louis Weber.

Organizer Sandy Hoffman works at MedAssets and participates in Corporate Achievers through the MS Society. She got the idea from a company in Perryville, Mo., that had a similar benefit for a school. MedAssets agreed to match up to $1,000 through their Heart and Soul program, which Hoffman has already exceeded.

Hoffman has had multiple sclerosis for the past 17 years, her brother has had it for more than 25 years and her daughter was recently diagnosed.

Hoffman also participates in Relay for Life and credits her employers for her charitable work.

"They want you to get involved in charity," she said.

There will be a raffle for several items. Among them are gift certificates for massages, restaurants and car dealers for maintenance and St. Louis Cardinals tickets. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and several door prizes.

The music for the dance will be provided by Charlie's Music Revue, and O'Charley's is donating the food.

Tickets are available in advance or at the door.
