PERRYVILLE -- A Memphis man suffered moderate injuries in an early morning accident Friday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Ronald Melton, 42, was southbound on Interstate 55, approximately 2 miles north of Highway B, when his 1970 Harley Davidson motorcycle was struck in the rear by a 1995 Ford.

The driver of the Ford was identified as Michael Schafer, 23, of Perryville.

Melton's motorcycle slid 472 feet on the interstate before coming to rest on the shoulder of the road, according to the patrol's report.

Melton suffered moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Perry County Memorial Hospital.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. Friday.
