While most federal, state, county and municipal offices will be closed Monday in observance of Presidents Day, most area schools will be in session to make up days lost due to snow and ice.
The exception is Cape Girardeau public schools and St. Mary's Cathedral School in Cape Girardeau, which will be closed for the holiday.
Local schools that will be open Monday include: Notre Dame High School, St. Vincent Elementary School, and Trinity Lutheran School, all in Cape Girardeau; Jackson R-2 schools, St. Paul Lutheran School, and Immaculate Conception, all in Jackson; and Oak Ridge schools.
Other schools in session Monday are: Nell Holcomb, Delta, Kelly of Benton, and Oak Ridge schools.
In nearby Southern Illinois, the Shawnee, Egyptian and Mounds-Meridian school districts will be in session Monday to make up for lost days due to bad weather.
The license fee offices in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, and Chaffee will be closed Monday.
There will be no driver's or commercial drivers license examinations given Monday at the Jackson National Guard Armory. No CDL road skills tests will be given at the Nash Road site. The next driver's license and CDL testing will be Thursday and Friday at the Naval Reserve Training Center in Cape Girardeau.
All banks and financial institutions will be closed Monday.
City offices in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Chaffee, and Scott City will be closed.
The regular Monday meeting of the Jackson Board of Aldermen will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Cape Girardeau City Council meeting will be held on Wednesday.
In Cape Girardeau, Monday's trash routes will be picked up on Tuesday.
Tuesday's routes will be run on Wednesday. The information in Friday's ad on the Tuesday pickup was incorrect.
There will be no Wednesday special pickups on Feb. 23.
In Jackson, the Monday solid-waste pickup route will be consolidated with the Tuesday routes. The Jackson landfill will be closed on Monday.
There will be no trash pickup service in Scott City on Monday. The Monday routes will run on Tuesday, and Tuesday's routes will be picked up on Wednesday.
In Chaffee, the Monday trash route will run as scheduled. Residents should have their cans or bags at curbside early Monday morning.
The Cape Girardeau Post Office will be closed Monday. There will be no box or home delivery of mail; however, express and priority mail will be delivered on Monday. There will be a collection of mail Monday evening from the city drop boxes.
