Two early morning fires destroyed homes in Millersville and Shawneetown. Around midnight Fruitland and North County firefighters responded to a report of a fire at Old Shawnee Road in Shawneetown. Fruitland fire chief Dean Riley said by the time crews received the call and arrived on the scene, the home had burned completely. Riley said the homeowner was at work when the home caught on fire. Firefighters left the scene around 3 a.m. Jackson and Millersville firefighters responded to a call shortly before 1 a.m. at 335 Indian Spring Road in Millersville. Crews left the scene around 5 a.m. but were called back later in the morning when the fire resurfaced. Millersville chief Jerry Aufdenberg said the situation was contained by 10:30 a.m. Aufdenberg said the homeowner reported the fire started in the kitchen but its cause is unknown. Both residents escaped from the two-story structure.
