A Morley, Missouri, man is in custody for allegedly violating a protective order and three other counts involving drugs and violence.
Kevin R. McClendon, 56, who has no permanent address but provided a post office box in Morley, was charged Sunday evening with possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said in a news release that about 11 a.m. Sunday, a senior deputy confronted McClendon at a business off U.S. 61 in Morley.
The deputy told McClendon he was being arrested for violations of an adult protection order issued by the Scott County Associate Circuit Court.
While speaking to the officer, McClendon decided to leave his vehicle at the business with his jacket inside. McClendon pulled a black container from the jacket pocket and opened it, and the officer saw a plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance later identified as methamphetamine. He ordered McClendon to surrender it.
McClendon backed away, according to the release, and then turned to walk away, dropping the bag. The deputy grabbed McClendon's left arm and ordered him to get on the ground; McClendon did not comply. The officer again ordered McClendon to the ground, but he continued resisting by backing away and ignoring the deputy's instructions, the release said.
Eventually, McClendon was forced to the ground and the plastic bag was recovered from under McClendon's feet, according to the release.
After being handcuffed, McClendon said there was a glass pipe in the vehicle. The pipe and the clear plastic bag field-tested positive for methamphetamine, the release stated.
McClendon was transported to the Scott County Jail.
