ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The children of Missouri lieutenant governor candidate Susan Montee became caught up in a melee outside a St. Joseph bar. The St. Joseph News-Press reported that Montee's two sons and one daughter became separated early Friday while celebrating a friend's birthday. Montee's sons called their sister, and she told them she had been assaulted. Montee's daughter approached officers to tell them what happened, but St. Joseph police were dispersing a crowd. Capt. Kevin Castle said the daughter failed to disperse and officers charged her with disorderly conduct. Montee says her sons returned to help and approached their sister. Montee said police then used pepper spray and all three were arrested. One son was charged with interfering, the other with disorderly conduct. Montee is the former state auditor.
