ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- A Cameron woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the beating death of her 2-year-old son.
Brandy Burrell, 23, pleaded innocent Friday to second-degree murder and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
The boy's father, Isaiah Washington, 18, of St. Joseph, was charged earlier in the week with second-degree murder for allegedly beating Isaiah Washington Jr. to death.
Charges against Burrell stem from her alleged failure to try to stop the assault on her son or to seek immediate medical assistance for the boy. According to court documents, Burrell previously was ordered not to associate with Washington.
An autopsy found that the child, who died Oct. 26, had bruises all over his body, broken ribs and an abrasion on his head.
Burrell's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. Washington's preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 17 at 1 p.m.
Burrell and Washington remained jailed on $150,000 bond each.
