Temporary traffic signals at the intersection of Highways 74 and 25 at Dutchtown, Mo., in Cape Girardeau County will be activated at 1 p.m. today. The signals will operate during the construction of the Diversion Channel Bridge reconstruction at the intersection of Interstate 55 and Route AB.
The Missouri Department of Transportation decided to install the signals when many motorists moved their daily commute to Highways 25 and 74 to avoid traffic delays on I-55.
The temporary signals should greatly improve traffic flow at the intersection. The temporary signals are located on a span wire above the intersection. Sensors were installed in the pavement to activate the signals. MoDOT officials say this will be safer and provide a smoother flow of traffic.
