The Missouri Department of Transportation and Cape Girardeau are working to eliminate access from Timon Way to Highway 177 to increase safety. Right-of-way negotiations are underway, and work is set to begin later this month. A turn-around lane will be constructed before access is closed. The project is expected to take a week, weather permitting. MoDOT will also start work on U.S. 61 at 6 p.m. Thursday. The road will be reduced to one lane for resurfacing between Route D and Highway 34/72. Work will continue between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. until Aug. 13. Some of the streets in the area may be temporarily closed except to local traffic.
