The Missouri Department of Transportation will repair the Interstate 55 ramps at the Scott City interchange using a new construction process.
The state highway commission awarded a $155,061 contract Friday to Gaines Construction Inc. of Wentzville, Mo.
The work includes repairing major cracks in the pavement. Highway officials said the repairs will involve a new process called "slot stitching."
Slots will be drilled into the pavement across the cracks and steel reinforcing bars will be placed in the slots. The slots then will be filled with grout.
Highway officials said this kind of repair is the most economical way to fix the pavement and will cause less traffic disruption.
