Akin's son and campaign manager, Perry Akin, said the comment reveals an "apparent personal vendetta." Perry Akin accused Priebus of "putting party power and political games ahead of the good of the country."

Priebus and other top Republicans have said Akin should drop his Senate bid because of his inflammatory remarks about rape and pregnancy. Akin has apologized.
