JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- A financially troubled fund for injured Missouri workers has state lawmakers trying to figure out what to do next.

The Second Injury Fund covers claims from workers with previous injuries or conditions who are re-injured on the job. Analysts have warned for years the fund was running out of money, and the attorney general's office stopped settling injured workers' cases last fall.

One option lawmakers are considering is eliminating the Second Injury Fund and having employers pay claims through the workers' compensation system.

A House committee took testimony about the fund Monday from worker, business and insurance groups.
