Mo. House backs lottery ticket for veterans homes

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri House has endorsed a proposed constitutional amendment allowing the state lottery to offer a special game to benefit veterans' homes.

Missouri's Constitution now dedicates all lottery proceeds to public education.

The proposal by Republican Sheila Solon, of Blue Springs, would allow a new, electronic pull-tab game to help fund veterans' homes.

The game is played on a computer screen, with characters revealed by sliding a fingertip instead of pulling a paper tab. The electronic games are usually played in restaurants or bars.

The House must approve Solon's measure a second time before it goes to the Senate. If approved by the Legislature, the proposal would go before voters later this year.
