ST. LOUIS -- The executive director of Stray Rescue St. Louis and the Humane Society of Missouri's Disaster Response Unit will help animals left homeless after Hurricane Gustav.

KSDK-TV reported that Randy Grim left Sunday night with Jeff Popowich of Best Friends Sanctuary as part of a first responders group traveling to New Orleans.

An eight-member team from the Humane Society of Missouri's Disaster Response Unit arrived in New Orleans Saturday morning. They brought hundreds of animal crates and semi-trucks to help rescue the animals.

Both the Humane Society of Missouri and Stray Rescue helped save animals in 2005, in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
