JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Republican gubernatorial candidate Sarah Steelman is calling for a special session on abortion legislation.
The Missouri Legislature adjourned Friday without passing a bill that would have made it illegal to coerce a woman into having an abortion. That bill also would have expanded the information required to be given to women.
Gov. Matt Blunt supported the bill but has expressed no intent to call a special session because of its failure. Blunt is not seeking re-election this year.
Steelman on Monday also called for a law prohibiting abortions on the basis of gender, deformity or potential disability.
