SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- An 11th victim has died from injuries sustained in a fire at a southwest Missouri group home, State Fire Marshal Randy Cole said Thursday.
Charles Smith, 42, died Sunday at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, Cole said.
The state fire marshal's office has not pinpointed an exact cause of the Nov. 27 fire that killed 11 and injured dozens at the Anderson Guest House for the mentally ill. But the agency listed an electrical short or overload in the attic as a possible cause.
According to documents released Tuesday, a maintenance man trying to fix a furnace short-circuited the electrical wiring running through the attic where the fire started. The report labels the investigation as noncriminal.
