The Southeast Missourian will publish Saturday editions on the next five weekends.
The Saturday publications will be delivered to all subscribers and will be available at newsracks at the normal weekday price.
"We're testing the market," said Publisher Gary Rust. "Advertisers and readers have asked for a Saturday publication. Ultimately, we will publish the newspaper seven days a week."
Rust said these five issues will test the newspaper's facilities, personnel and response.
All of the Saturday publications will be full news products, including regular features such as the Opinion page, obituaries and comics, plus an expanded sports section that will include Friday night scores.
In addition, the Saturday newspaper will feature a revised front page design and expanded use of color photographs and graphics.
The Southeast Missourian will publish a newspaper every day but one (Christmas Day) from next Saturday until the end of the year. In its normal schedule, the newspaper publishes six days a week, from Sunday through Friday.
