The Missouri State Teachers Association honored the Southeast Missourian newspaper with four awards for outstanding reporting of news in education.
The awards were presented Thursday at the MSTA's state convention in St. Louis. Peggy Scott of the Southeast Missourian staff accepted the awards for the newspaper.
The Missourian took top honors for features with its weekly Learning page and won the top award for photography.
The newspaper also received honorable mentions for the long-standing Teacher's Corner feature and for editorials written about education throughout the year.
Nominations are judged on originality, impact, objectivity, timeliness, appeal and contribution to education. Awards are given to weekly and daily papers in three categories: features, photography and editorials.
The Missourian took the top award in two of the three categories. In the features category, the newspaper received both the top award and an honorable mention.
The Missourian is a repeat winner in the competition. Bruce Moe, MSTA director of communication, said: "It's a pleasure to continue presenting awards to The Missourian. The awards are well earned."
