Myers said Smith was eastbound on U.S. 54 when the driver of the other car tried to cross the four-lane highway and pulled in front of Smith. Police said speed was not a factor.

Smith and the other driver were taken to an area hospital. Smith was released later Thursday. The condition of the other driver was not known.

Smith, a Republican, represents the 14th House district, which includes the cities of Weldon Spring and St. Peters. He was first elected in 2002.
