Missouri professors protest campus spending

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- Some University of Missouri professors are rallying against a plan that would boost their salaries -- but only at the expense of other cuts on campus.

Nearly 70 professors signed a petition demanding an emergency meeting with Chancellor Brady Deaton on Thursday. The teachers want to discuss a $7 million proposal to boost faculty salaries through administrative cuts and the elimination of vacant teaching jobs.

Also on the agenda is discussion of what the concerned professors describe as poor financial support from state lawmakers.
